Piercing

Piercing Information

There are three basic questions about getting pierced: is it safe?; does it hurt?; and how much does it cost?

Safety depends on you and your choice of piercing studio. Avoid mall piercers; they aren't well trained and they don't have the best equipment. Find a piercing studio that's clean and a piercer that you like and trust. Take good care of the piercing afterwards; correct aftercare is vital. If you do the right things and find the right piercer, it will be safe.

Never get pierced if you are ill, drunk or pregnant. The piercer should turn you away if s/he thinks you may be any or all of the above.

Does it hurt? Yes! A well trained piercer using the correct equipment should minimise the pain but, inevitably, there will be some. Some places are more painful to pierce than others and some people will be more sensitive in certain areas. Discuss the pain issue with your piercer and be honest with them and yourself about your tolerance to pain. Ultimately, though, the process only takes a few seconds and, if you care for the piercing correctly, the aftercare process should be painless.

Cost varies depending on the studio you visit. Don't be tempted by lower prices at other piercers (in malls or salons). Ask how much it will cost you before you get the piercing. Don't haggle; be prepared to pay a fair price for a good job. Check if the jewellery comes with the piercing or is extra. Tipping is fine if you think it's a job well done.
