Henna Preparation

There are many kits available (often provided with henna books) that make preparing henna paste easy. These kits usually contain cones of henna that just need to be activated with a catalyst solution. After that you simply cut a hole in the point of the cone and apply the design, usually from a transfer.

Alternatively, you can prepare your own henna recipe and make your own cone.

Whichever method you choose, there are certain things you need to do before applying the henna. Most importantly, you need to prepare your skin.

Henna will last between one and four weeks. This depends on skin type, the freshness of the henna powder and on the thickness of the epidermis. Moreover, henna body art will last longer if you care for your skin and the design itself.

The day before, thoroughly exfoliate the area where the design will be applied. Any good quality exfoliating cream or a loofah should do the job. If you don't exfoliate, the design will begin to fade as soon as it is applied because the dead cells will fall away immediately; the mehdni will not last as long and will be lighter from the beginning.

Immediately before you apply the design, cleanse the skin carefully. Use a gentle facial wash (alcohol-free) to remove any excess oil and moisturiser from the area.
