Henna Body Art

Henna body art -- Mehndi, Mehendi, Mehandi -- has become increasingly popular in the West. Thanks to a mobile world population and the growth of long-haul tourism, most people are familiar with traditional henna designs. Now, henna is used to create stunning temporary tattoos for every occasion.

There are many wonderful practicioners of the art of mehndi; check out your local directory or run a search online to find one in your area. Be sure that the henna they use is pure, though, as black henna can be extremely dangerous.

Alternatively, it is easy to create and apply your own henna body art. There are some great books available and many of them come with beginners kits that contain everything you need to get started. You can even mix up your own henna paste and make your own cones.

If you're going to do your own henna work, make sure to prepare correctly and practice the techniques for holding the cone and applying the henna before you start on a large piece. Using a transfer is generally the best way to start, graduating to free hand application with experience.

The design you choose can be anything from the most traditional to a very modern, tattoo-style. Henna is a safe, natural way to create temporary body art.
